Mr Tim Jones
Hastings Boys' High School 1986
Tim studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury and began his career in IT in Christchurch. After a few years, he moved to London, where he originally planned to stay for just a few years but ended up living there for 10. During his time in London, Tim worked in IT for various financial institutions. He later returned to Hawke's Bay with his English partner and their 3-year-old, joining the small IT firm McCarthy & Associates, where he has been a software developer for the past 10 years.
Tim's hobbies and interests revolve around being a parent to two busy boys. He enjoys being involved in their sports and activities, helping out with teams and encouraging them to play chess to balance their screen time. Tim also assists with chess programmes at their schools.
While Tim doesn’t have a single specific passion or cause, he is concerned about the future for upcoming generations. He maintains an interest in social change, anthropology, and the impact of technology. Believing in the power of books to expand perspectives, Tim encourages his sons to read a diverse range of books, a habit they have both embraced.
